I recently turned off my hot water heater (fpr about 30 minutes)to vaccum around it and clean it. then I relit the pilot light and it has now been almost 24 hours and we have no hot water! HELP!
I doubt it is high efficiency if it has a standing pilot light. You may have moved or damaged the thermal couple or have the temp turned all the way down.

Yup. We're seeing/installing more and more power-vented gas WHs all the time around here. That because lots of folks have gone to HE furnaces vented via PVC and consequently don't even have a chimney from the get-go.....or they're choosing to go the power-vented WH route so they don't have to maintain an old chimney just for a WH. Knock it down and roof over.

Our Bradford-White LP gas WH is power-vented and has a standing pilot. Same for my mother's AO Smith gas WH. And numerous others I've installed. Same for some power-vented ceiling-hung unit heaters; available with either electronic ignition or standing pilot.
You did make sure to turn the gas valve to "On" and did not leave it on "Pilot' Right?
yes, that I did double check and it is set at "On". thanks!
Have you checked the breaker/fuse to the WH?
(If a breaker.....turn it completely off and then back on.)
Breaker/fuse?
It sounds like a gas WH.... I guess if it's a high efficent or power vented... yep;)

you didn't accidentally turn off the supply to the house did you?
In third generation rehabs in central Pa as well.
Yes, but have you ever seen a HE unit with a standing pilot light?
