No ground wire

The new lamppost top I purchased does not have a ground wire, but the electricity coming from the post does, what should I do to ground

Re: No ground wire

There should be at least a grounding screw on the lamp body for the ground wire to attach .

That's hard to believe, especially for a new post right out the box. Are you sure you didn't overlook? check the box again. Could you have purchased a box that was returned to the store?

Option 2: return to the store and ask for an exchange.

if the lamp isnt steel this might make sense, if metal something isnt adding up!

If its all plastic or glass or fiberglass, I'm not sure if it needs a ground. Why would it? There's nothing to ground.

But yes, if it's metal... check the instructions. But it should have a ground or a screw or lug to attach a ground wire to.

An outside lamp post should be protected by a GFCI, in my opinion a ground wire would add virtually no protection.
