No cold water in the tub even with the valve removed.
Robert

Hi,

Working on developing my diy skills and have run into a good one.  I was replacing the cartridge out of a moen tub, because the cold water was no longer working.  After removing it i decided to test if the lines might have issues.  With the valve out and the cold water mains turned on there is no water coming out of the faucet housing.  How ever if I turn on the sink, water runs out of the tub faucet housing, slowly but it does run some.

Any ideas on next steps or a direction to go?

Look for a shutoff valve that may have a failed rubber washer .

Well after replacing the valve stem i worked out that it is the pressure balancing spool. Down side ot hasn't unscrewed in probably 30 to 40 years. Any suggestions.

Keep spraying CLR on it for a feww days to see if that will loosen it.

Robert, I had the same problem with water pressure, especially with cold one in my tub, but also in my faucet. Long story short - we've tried a lot of options, changing components, and then asked our uncle to install a faucet he has just bought for himself (one of these top-notch faucets: https://cozyhousetoday.com/delta-faucet-t4767-fl-review), and we installed it. Finally - the problem was solved. So it was all about our faucet. Maybe your issue is much harder than just a faucet.
