Newer bathroom sink drain smells like dirt.

We have a new half bath, about a year old. The new sink and it seems to be the drain emits this dirt/earthy smell. The sink drains fine. Any suggestions on why this may be or ways to eliminate the odor? Thanks!

Seldom used drains often get wee beasties growing in the trap. Some drain-o or bleach overnight should work

Many times it comes from the overflow. I would pour some bleach in there also.

Try removing the plug and clean sink exhausted. Maybe he is not cleaned and you have a colony of evil things rot everywhere inside the plug of the sink exhausted. This is not a good sight. Slow drainage of water out of the sink if you close the sink drain plug, fill the sink and turn the exhaust plug? This is an indication that the second exhaust plug sink probably connected with any dirt.

In addition, remove the trap, examine it, clean it or replace it if it stinks. Examine the other visible drain parts for dry deposits, clean as necessary.

You can also pour in some baking soda followed by a stream of white vinegar. It will foam up and clean its way down through the pipes. Great for hard water deposits along the way, too.
