From llmotoll: "Soffit ventilation not required."

In my city, there are required with gable vents. My inspectors have always asked to see them, to make sure they are adequate.

figured it went without saying. You need to abide by any local codes.

Here is a diagram for insulation behind the kneewall. I prefer the method on the right, it is how I did mine.

Mine is the one on the left without any soffit ventilation though.
