We have a split gambrel style home...with a steep pitched front roof.
Years ago, we had our siding replaced and the installers had to remove and reinstall our gutters. When they reinstalled the gutters, the gutters were not hung with a consistent pitch. In fact, they go up and down before hitting the downspout.
We did not notice how poorly the guttters were reinstalled and later installed a new roof using architectural shingles. The roof is ~5 years old now.
We have now decided to have our gutters replaced and are being told the architectural shingles cannot be bent back (without breaking them) to remove the old and install new gutter hangers on the front of the house. Hangers must be used since there is no fascia to attach the gutters to.
We are being told the fasteners for the hangers must be installed right through the roof shingles. I believe when the roof was redone ice shield was installed.
Is this a bad idea?
Is there a better way to mount the gutter when no fascia is available?
