need hot water

Our hot water heater is in the garage on the east end of the house. Our master bath is on the second floor on the west end of the house. we have to run the hot water in the soaker tub until it warms up enough to get a hot shower. We collect the water from the tub to water houseplants but still feel this is wasteful. Any ideas?

Look into a hot water re-circulation pump, it basically pushes hot water through out the house. There are a few good models available.

I would also recommend a recirculating pump. I would suggest one that uses an occupancy detector or manual switch that runs until hot water reaches the bathroom. No sense in saving water and overspending on electricity.
