Need help anchoring framing to plaster walls

I'm framing in a chase in the corner of a room. The existing walls are plaster lathe over brick (no void in-between). The chase will run the height of the room, which is 13 feet. How can I anchor the 2x4s to the existing plaster wall? I thought about using brick anchors... if that is the case, should I do it blindly, or scrape away the existing plaster so that I can ensure that the anchors are going dead-center in the brick and not the mortar? If I scrape away the plaster and lathe, should I patch those areas with something to help reduce weathering?
