need advice about original tongue and groove walls

I am redoing the walls of our old farmhouse. After removing layers of wallpaper, material, card board, and more wallpaper I am finally down to the original tongue and groove walls. The walls are in fair shape. There were ALOT of nails, and several holes drilled in the walls about the size of a quarter. We kindof like the old walls and have been thinking about leaving them instead of drywalling. I was wondering if there are any cons to doing this? What are the drilled holes for, my husband thought maybe for running electric? I think the best thing to do would be to paint them because there are some areas that we will need to use would putty on. Has anybody done this and if so I would love to see some pictures. Any words of advice would bee appreciated. Thanks :)
