Need 2 know today Vertical blinds--go bel;ow the window sill and molding or above????

Hello,
I am to order tomorrow vertical blind for our living room window. Any suggestion as whether to keep them above the window sill (it is about 2.5 inches) or cover the whole window. The upper valance is going above the window molding it’s just a matter of the lower end that I can seem to decide. Here are some pics ...any suggestion??? Someone said that it may look floating in thin air if I go below the sill and molding at the bottom end also.???? But the people at blinds to go said that it is usually up to up. The blinds are the same color as the wall you see in the pic. Please give your opinion.

For mounting outside the window box, I would take them down past the trim. Just my preference.

click on the link above and look at the picture on the right...
It is very similar to our master bedroom.
When we first install it, we didn't like it very much. We couldn't return it, and then my wife came up with an idea of installing curtains after looking through couple pictures on websites.

My wife got an eye for details, I'll give her the credit.:)

Thanks, I think i get it know; either it an outside mount or an inside one. I think i am going to go belwo the sill too. Do you think I need to go all the way down to the floor. or just 2 inches belwo the lower molding will look ok.????

Thanks!!!

Personally I like blinds mounted inside the window opening, it's a cleaner look. If you can't do that, then mount just above the opening. I would plan for an "even reveal" as well, meaning if you overlap the sides by 1", overlap the sill by an inch. When ordering blinds they will custom cut them to the width you require (just make sure they know if it's an inner mount or an outer mount ). The blinds will probably arrive several inches to several feet too long, allowing the installer to adjust the length to the application. Some companies will custom cut the lengths as well, again, make sure they know it's an inner or outer mount so that your measurements are followed accordingly.

Thank you again; I dont know if they can fit inside the frame. Do you think the outside mount look weird. Any website of pics to have a look at.

Thanks for your feedback!!!!

It looks to me like you've already got them mounted to the inside, so I'd personally leave them there. you don't have much room between the window and the wall surface, which makes the blind protrude a bit and look unruly, which is why I don't like surface or outer mounted blinds. If this was my window, I'd keep the blinds inside and add a valance of some sort over the top of the window to hide the top of the blind. There are many premade valances to choose from, or if you're handy with a sewing machine you can make your own. In my last house I built 12" wooden frames, then had a padded valance made to fit them, the results were great. It's hard to make out in this image, but you can see what I'm talking about. If I can find a better picture I will post it.

Great job with the window!!!I can use this idea for other windows in the house.

Maybe i didnt explain it well. the venetian blinds ( that are in the pics) will be taken off and instead vertical blind will be put up! putting the vertical blinds outside or inside is the question. If outside mount, will they look as if they are hanging in air!!! Do i take them to the floor ( which is very costly)

Thanks any way for your prompt reply!!!!
