nails backing out of sheetrock

My parent's home is about 1 1/2 years old.

I've noticed the nails (or screws) are backing out of the sheetrock above some of the windows on the exterior walls. What's that about? Please help!

Re: nails backing out of sheetrock

With the house being so new it's not that uncommon to see happen.

When the lumber used for framing starts to dry out it will loosen the fasteners a bit.
Another issue if the fasteners missed the stud these will move as well.

Hope this helps.:)

Re: nails backing out of sheetrock

I agree with canuk with one added if the screws or nails went in two far (if the head rips the paper all the way around that is too far) then the sheetrock will vibrate there because of not being truly fastened. when it does so the mud on top of the nail or screw pops loose. but usually it is screws or nails that missed the stud. if that is the case simply remove them and mud over the hole.

hangers always seem to hate taking the time to remove their misses, that is one reason finishers have the reputation of being whiners. (one of many)
