mysterious drain in masonry foundation

I have a 1933 tudor in Nashville, TN. It has a completed basement with 4-6 foot foundational walls. There is a ledge that creates a 2' crawl space between that wall and the floor joists.

Under the kitchen area, which has always been the kitchen area, there is a drain that seems to serve no purpose. That area is never wet(the basement is never wet) and I was just curious if anyone can tell me why that would be there.

There is also a drain in the middle of the floor but that seems pretty self-evident.

Thanks,
Jai

Hard to determine or to speculate.

Why don't you go to some neighbors and ask them. Chances are that they live in similar homes, built by the same builder.

The 2 adjacent houses built from the same parcel both have mud packed basements
