One other newbie question -
why is the word P O W E R replaced by ***** in all the posts?

I think there's a "bad word" list that doesn't seem to work right. It doesn't make any sense why the word p0wer would be prohibited.

Here's a hint: if you put a zero as the second letter, p0wer will display properly (with the letter instead of a zero, go figure).

There are actually several words that are censored out for no reason.

i would avoid the porter cable, it has had poor reviews
if going with the bosch ts4100 look for the ts4100-10. reason being the first gen of the newer model was built with extremely low qaulity bearings and would burn out in the first 6 months . they have fixed this issue with the newer batch of saws

Which Porter Cable had poor reviews, the 220 or 270? Could you provide the links? I actually just got back from looking at the PCB270TS at our local Lowe's, I'm almost positive I'm going to borrow my old man's pick-up tomorrow and bring one home.

im not sure of the actual model number i just know its newer, i read up on most tool reviews through trade publications so i know whats what for when i need to replace my gear. fine homebuilding said its in the bottom of the pack of the contractor grade models.. stick with bosch id say. the dewalt is good to though its much harder to align if the fence goes out of wack, ive spent hours trying to get them re-aligned, i can have my bosch back in line in 3 minutes

...Craigslist update....

I found a brand new, still boxed DELTA 36-979 and DELTA 36-T30 Fence
for around $550.

This seems like the best option of all.

I would appreciate further opinions before pulling the trigger on this.

thanks,

FCD

just a craigslist tip since I don't have firsthand experience with the delta saw....

If you use www.searchtempest.com it makes searching different craigslist areas much easier. You can enter a mileage from a zip code and it will search all the craigslist's that fall under that distance umbrella for teh keyword(s) you enter.

Craftsman used to be a brand that said a lot about stability and reliability. Now, they're pretty garbage for mid- or higher-level needs. It's like Craftsman mowers, now they're rebranded "same as the rest" stuff. The only thing good about Craftsman is their hand tool replacement policy. Damaged? Bring it in and swap it out right there - no mailers, or other nonsense.
