We have a small family room and I would like to take out the wall between the family room and living room. There are ducts for heat in the wall. Is there anything that can be done with these or are we unable to take the wall out?
You can remove the wall. I'd be inclined to just put the register in the floor/ceiling, wherever it is sourced from.
Spruce is right, there is nothing else you can do. If you have metal ducts and you are not sure how to proceed, get an A/C tech to do the cutting and adding for you.
Slight addendum to my first comment, make sure that if the wall is structural, that you treat it accordingly, that is to say, if it is supporting, then you need to transfer it's load out and around what will become an opening. Other than that, I'd still put the duct in the floor/ceiling as necessary.
