moldy porch ceiling

Our front porch ceiling (north - northeast side of house) is made of bead board and has a coat of primer on it (applied 2 seasons ago - haven't got around to painting it, yet). Today I noticed that much of the ceiling is covered in mold. Any ideas why? And how to get rid of it and keep it from coming back?

Re: moldy porch ceiling

I had the same problem on a back porch with a pine plywood ceiling. I used diluted bleach water to wipe down all the wood ( be sure to wear safety glasses when working overhead & looking up). I gave it a few days to completely dry then re-primed it with Kilz primer. I have read that you can actually get the Kilz tinted by your home improvement store to be the final color. I stayed with white. It has been six months now and the mold has not returned. It might be good idea to find out why it was moldy to start with. Is the area damp all the time? You might want to install some ceiling fans or something to circulate the air to keep the mold from returning.
Good luck!!!:)
