maximum exposure for an 18-inch "perfection" cedar roofing shingle

For a new cedar roof (fairly steep, about 5 in 12), we're trying to decide between 18" perfections and 24" tapersawn royals.

What is the maximum recommended exposure for an 18" perfection?

If the exposure varies according to butt thickness, we are deciding between 5/8 and 7/8 inch butt thicknesses, in either Western Red Cedar or Alaskan Cypress (yellow "cedar").

Exposure on 18" shakes is about 9", so I would guess that it would be between 9" and 12" on a longer shake. The pitch of the roof may have some consideration in overlap, though I could not tell you what it would be.
