Loud Popping Sounds in Home
Betty Frampton

Recently, we had a new roof and new paint job on our 20-year old home. Last night the temperature dropped to 30 degrees, very cold for California. At 32 degrees, there was a huge explosion within the house somewhere. We could find no visable damage. Tonight, the temperature is again dropping and there have been several very loud explosions or some may call them pops. These noises are unnerving and frightening. I've done research on the internet and it seems that the roofing and/or building materials may be the culprit. My thinking is that the paint has sealed the house so tightly, it has no room to expand or contract. Or, the new roof may be causing this. Is there anything we can do and could this be causing any damage?

What type of roofing material was used?

Metal, perhaps?
