Loud noises when spigot is opened, please advise.
Blue Sky

My house is 3 years old. Recently and occasionally, whenever I open the spigot in the backyard to use the gardening hose, there are very loud clanking/banging noises from the middle of the house. It seems to be coming from where the water pipes are located. As soon as I shut off the spigot, the noise disappears. Also, it only happens with the backyard spigot, not with any interior faucet. I was told that it has something to do with air pockets in the water pipes. Is that true? If so, what can I do about this? Will it go away eventually, will anythign break? Thanks for any advice.
