Loud Mortise Lock - Help!

My house is 101 years old and we have been able to keep most of the solid wood doors. We converted most of them to standard doorknobs/locksets (using cover plates), however we decided to purchase a replacement mortise lock for the bathroom set. The only problem is that when the door closes, the latch is very loud. If someone pushes the door closed in the middle of the night without turning the handle it wakes me up! Rather than trying to get everyone to turn the handle so it closes much quieter, is there some way I can make the mortise lock latch quietly? Or should I just give up and install a regular lockset...they close nice and quietly. Thank you for your help!

Re: Loud Mortise Lock - Help!

Old lock sets have heavy springs, it may be possible to replace the spring in your set with a lighter one however trying to find the right spring may be a problem.

Re: Loud Mortise Lock - Help!

That's right, it might make sense to install a regular set.
