Lightbulbs burn out too soon

We have two ceiling light fixtures in the kitchen. We used to have the kind that the bulbs were closed into the fixture. The light bulbs burned out very frequently so I thought the closed fixture may be getting too hot and contributing to the early burnout. But the new fixtures are open to the air, with a glass square bowl underneath. The bulbs still burn out in about 6 weeks. Even compact flourecent bulbs. This doesn't happen elsewhere in the house. Any thoughts?

I'm wondering if a voltage reading should be done on that circuit, it might be to high .
