Knob & Tube

I have knob and tube wiring in my 1920 two story frame home. For safety sake, I would like to replace it with conventional up to date wiring. Is it necessary to replace the knob and tube in the vertical walls as well? I've received two differing opinions from electrical contractors.

If it were me I would replace all. If a new owner comes in and sees the conventional wiring he may think it's in the side walls as well and insulate the side walls. Plus in many areas code would require it. Plus then you would also have ground in all circuits.

Thanks for the reply. Sounds like sound advice that makes good sense.

I think you answer your own question when you say that you would like to replace and "replace it with conventional up to date wiring".
