Kitchen floor in need of leveling

I am going to install a ceramic tile floor for my parent, I noticed the floor is not level. I am looking at the self-leveling product that is spread out on the floor. how do you actually use this stuff and does it really self-level the floor?

First, what are you installing the tile over? If it is bare concrete, then leveling material alone will suffice. If there is anything on that concrete, it will need to be removed before you do anything else. If the floor is anything but concrete, then you're likely going to need a tile backer installed first, which will take care of a lot of the unevenness, though you will still be at least skim coating the seams with leveling material.
