Junction Box

Question. So in my basement I have a electrical box thats mounted to the open rafters of the basement. It appears that its actually a metal electrical junction box that has an light socket outlet base installed. I also see that there is a wire coming in(does not come direct from the panel) and a wire going out to provide power that ends at a electrical outlet installed on the wall on the other side of the basement. My question is, can I take out that light socket/outlet base and install a flush mount 3 prong outlet in its place with it being a junction box? Id like to have it as an outlet instead of a light socket fixture. Also what do you think is the limit of size of things I can plug into it after converting over to a outlet? In other words a small 5.0 cubic freezer or maybe entertainment center with a tv, surround sound, dvd player, cable box, ect. Thanks in advance for your answers.
