Is it time for a new furnace???
Niko

I have a 19 year old furnace. I have inspected the unit and the A coil is rusting, and i am having to clean the flame sensor once a month during the cool months. Although, the darn thing does run i'm just afraid it's going to break down during the winter months. Is in my best interest to repair or replace? The AC unit is the same age.

I'd say it's probably time to replace. It's not like it's running well. 20 years is usually about the stated lifespan for furnaces these days not that they can't last longer.

Every furnace is a different story, but at 19 years, yours has reached a point that fixing may be a waste of money.

Listen to the advice of some honest HVAC techs, if you find them, and follow your instinct.

Without seeing and inspecting what you have, I can't tell you what to do, but I'm a realist, and I also don't have time to play with a furnace that stops working when it's cold out there. I'd replace it. Money well spent.

Round these parts its typical for the AC to wear out long before the heat. At 20 years a new system will be far more efficient.
