Is it Linoleum or vinyl and what do I do with it?

Hi.

We just bought a 1920 bungalow and I planned to pull up the old floor in the kitchen and lay wood but I've fallen in love with it.
What I have is light blue and white 12 inch squares and very good condition. How do I know if it's lino or vinyl and can I put polyurethane on these floors for a good shine?

Thanks, K.

I'm not sure what the tiles are made of but I wouldn't put polyurethane on it, regardless. It'll give the tiles a little yellow look and since you like the way they look now, you'll be disappointed. Try to find some non-yellowing floor wax and use that. It'll give you the shine you want and won't hide the beauty of the colors.

Good Luck.

I agree with ma2804, I wouldn't use polyurethane.
