insulating basement ductwork & bamboo flooring

I currently have a finished basement that I know the ductwork was not insulated.  I can feel the cold or heat areas  just above the ductwork on the floor area just above.  I plan to install bamboo flooring on all the floors on the second floor, just above the basement.  Should I be concerned with these cold and hotter areas warping the new bamboo flooring?  Can I minimize this by insulating the ductwork on the areas that I feel the second floor temperature differences?  Is there an underlayment that could help to protect my new bamboo installed flooring?

I was told by a flooring store that if I nail down bamboo flooring there is no need for underlayment.  Seems a bit strange to me.  Any recommendations?
