Step by Step ProjectsTips from the ProsAffordable Remodels
Q: I really dont know what to do, I bought a 1924 old house and the house has it;s original wall paper, carpet and vinyl floors. Now how do I take them out and how do I replace them? I'm in a big mess and I dont know what to do?
Get a price from a few contarctors start with the big orange or big blue chain hardware stores, They both are reasonable.
But like in your other post its an old house
check for lead
check for asbestos
have the paint and flooring tested don't take a chance
If the house is clean and livable, move in and live there for 6 mos. to a year so you get a feel for the house. Pick up decorating, remodeling, and diy books from the library. Watch TOH and other DIY programs for some ideas. Do as posted above and have it tested for lead and asbestos. Start small, maybe renting a steamer and removing the wall paper and re papering one room. Enjoy the experience and take your time.
