Any thoughts of a humane way of getting rid of a Woodchuck? Either that, or how to protect my plants from said woodchuck eating them up?
Contact your local animal control. They will usually loan you a "live" trap and will transport the animal to another location once you've captured it. If they won't loan you a trap, ask them where to purchase or rent one. Either way, they should still come and remove the captured critter once you have it in custody.
Failing that, get yourself a big dog.
In MD the Bunny Cops (Natural Resources Police) will not live trap and move an animal like a woodchuck, raccoon or oppossum in case it is diseased they don't want to infect other populations. Their preferred method is to kill it.
My preferred method is a Remington varmint rifle.
Thanks for the tips. I'll see if I can get a Remington trap! :)
