Here's one I am on http://www.diyforums.net/forums/
It seems to be mostly novices, too much questions about TVs and Harbor Freight tools, but they are trying to build it up. My biggest complaint is that they allow non members to post as guests.

I've been on the John Bridge tile forum for a few years now. Dabble in Houzz when I have the time. Thinking about contractors forum..

Then there are the RV sites ...

I need to get a life.

I've not been to that one yet. I've found two today that look promising, I just have not spent more than a few minutes looking to know if they're worthy of sharing yet. Of the four I've found, I very much like two, so fingers crossed I may have something to offer the group

I've been to the JB forum a couple times in the past, but do not know if they are anything but tile. If one were to guess by the suggestions to visit the JB forum, it would seem to be tile only, if it is a general construction site, then JB should be in the lead for one of our alternatives.

The sites I've found so far are:
http://www.houserepairtalk.com/ - The few topics I looked at the general regular group seem to be VERY much geared to helping the DIY'r without judgement.

http://www.house-improvements.com/ - A Canada based site that produces its own how-to videos and has a forum open to discussion.

I've got two others that I'm less inclined to suggest without further scrutiny.

Again, this is everyone's opportunity to offer alternative sites and to comment on the suggestions made, as to a place for us all to migrate to. Is it imperative that we do this as a group, no, but we know the depth of our collective knowledge and it would be nice to migrate to a site as a group, not only to continue our kinsmanship, but to continue offering our knowledge to those in need.

BTW, if you need more evidence that this forum is dead, this is EXACTLY what happened when TOH updated things the last time, and that is they did their shit, without notification, and the currently running forum just went dead. Other than Ibrewster, what budding DIY'r has posted in the last few days? I'm just say'n.

Make your personal contacts with each other now, before it's too late. Look for a new place for us all to reconvene in the very likely event that the writing on the wall is correct. Regardless of what happens, I hope to see most of you on the other side.

I've posted my e-mail address several times for those that want it [email protected]

If you want to e-mail me I will make a list of e-mail address and send it to each that apply.

Thanks Jack and Spruce, I'll check those places out later. Sounds like we'd be considered geniuses there, LOL

It was Spruce's idea to share email's so we can at least touch base once in awhile. I'm still short 2 folks I'd like to keep up with and am going to try them again, thanks to the others who have responded already.

But yes, if anyone has any ideas of decent home-repair forums let's have them while this forum is up and the sharing easy. This is the best crew I've ever worked with bar none, and I'd like to see us keep going that way!

Just glanced but HouseRepairTalk has a layout similar to here which I like- y'all have a look.

http://www.houserepairtalk.com/

The DIY forum covers lots of topics. OK for me as I'm into lots of things.

House Improvements is more compact, and it seems the site owner does a lot of the answers. Dunno how welcome different opinions would be but could be a good fit.

I'm with y'all regardless, speak up!

I too liked both those sites with a very short, quick look. I had a similar thought about the owner/answer one, though I get the sense that he's open to anyone who wants to help out. One of the things I liked about this site is that he produces how-to videos, so it is quite possible that we would all have a collaborative presence on future vids, whether it is WHAT to do one on or to cover more bases than one guy could possibly think of. At any rate, I like both HRT and HI sites. Both are similarly set up as this one, so there won't be a huge learning curve if they become our new home.

Hi guys

Was happy to see we're still up here. I did some various reading at HI. Shannon who's the craftsman/owner seems to have the patience of Job. Nice guy. Not too much other know-how there, but those few seem smart enough. The usual questions are pretty basic and I didn't happen across anything on the Old houses we love. Not a lot happening there, just slow and steady. I think we'd be welcomed well enough and valued, but possibly we'd get bored. Could grow larger, then would be better. Mostly Canadian, some US. Codes and some materials differ. My screen-name here is my gmail.

Overall nice but maybe not a good fit, just too basic. I think we can do better, but I'm with the rest of you regardless.

Going to check HRT and DIY later this evening.

Phil
