Re: I thought the Board was a goner for sure

I had some time today to go through the new site and as noted, there is no discernible link from the main site to the forum, which could be why it's been a lot quieter around here the past week or so. Wouldn't be at all surprised that they're going to let the forum go. Enjoy it while ya can.

I actually found a link to the forum buried in the askTOH FAQ. Do a word search for "forum" and it will pop up as one of the results.
Unfortunately for me the link no longer helps with my iPhone access.

The forum address is https://advice.thisoldhouse.com/ -- not that anyone will ever find it searching for it.

Well, folks, if the forum disappears, it was nice knowin' ya.

Well dam#, it sure doesn't look like the forum is going to be here much longer. They'll probably let it drop when the next webhost billing cycle comes along. Ain't sure where Ill be found after that. Going to browse around the home repair forums this weekend and see if there's any worth joining. Any suggestions will be welcome.

PM'ing friends here with my contact info and copying email addresses on profiles now. I'll be here till the end, but without new 'customers' being able to find us there won't be much going on. It's been a good run with everybody.

Very glad to see you back here, sorry things look this grim. Evidently the new owners don't want to have us around, and so far I can't get anything official on that so....

I'll be sending you a message through your website so we can stay in touch should the worst happen. A heck of a way to welcome an old friend home, huh?

BTW, if anyone has facebook, maybe you could ask one of the TV crew what's going on with this forum. Not knowing has got my straight-edges all bent out of shape

Since this place has quieted down, it has prompted many of us to ponder whether this forum will be around much longer. I have to say, the answer is decidedly no. The first hint is that there is no real, easy, direct link to this forum from the main TOH site, which means that any budding DIY'r with a question isn't going to be able to find us unless they've got a direct link. Instead, TOH has decided to reinvent themselves into a blog style site and to link to houzz and hometalk, which are equally useless, cluttered, blog style sites. Their idea of a "forum" is for people to make comments to blog posts, in other words, not only is there no room for any real discussion or resolution of questions, nor can you easily view the topic or conversation.

Mastercarpentry had the great idea for all of us to be looking for a new place that we as a group could call home. If someone finds something worthy of our time, post it here to alert everyone else. The two places mentioned above, three if you now include TOH, are garbage.

Happy hunting, let's hope we find something soon, it would be a shame for our regulars not to be able to share their collective knowledge with the DIY'r, as well as the up and coming generation of professionals.
