HVAC Zoned System Bypass

I just had a new HVAC system installed. It is a zoned system (one zone is upstairs, one zone is downstairs). The System is in the Basement which is unconditioned. The compressor is two-stage, 70/100 (Trane XL18i). There is currently a bypass with a barometric damper which goes from the supply to the return ductwork. Would it be better to have this bypass just dump into the basement so that the air going into the return isn't too hot or too cold?

Re: HVAC Zoned System Bypass

Not knowing the entire situation, your question would best be directed to your installer. They should have designed everything optimally already though so my guess is that you're as good as you'll get now. If you want some basement heat that needs a re-evaluation and possible some changes in the ducting.
