We have a finished basement with Natural Pine as the ceiling and wainscoting(75% of the basement). The floor is wood laminate. In the summer it is damp and we use a dehumidifier. The winter is a lot drier and the wood seems to be shrinking. The humidity level for the winter is 32-34%. Are we safe to use a Humidifier for the winter with all the wood?
Howdy wood is doing what it does expand and contract with the change of humidity levels . the larger concern is the mold that is giving you the damp smell.....
A humidifier is a household appliance that increases humidity (moisture) in a single room or in the entire house. There are point-of-use humidifiers, which are commonly used to humidify a single room, and whole-house or furnace humidifiers, which connect to a home's HVAC system to provide humidity to the entire house.
