how to repair stained woodwork around the house?

We bought a house few years ago and there are lot of stained wood - panels, trims, floors, windows, doors, cabinets. Pretty much everything (especially doors and wood trim around doors and floor has lots of scratches and dints. I have used touch-up stain markers on those and they seems to be ok. Also I have used Orange Oil and Old English to clean it up. Everything looked nice, but after few month I have notices greyish stains on doors and cabinets. Look like my cleaners destroy the clear coat on wood. Our contractor suggested we sand, re-stain and cover with polyurethane it again. We did it last summer (with contractor) and now there are grey stains also on windows and doors. Does anyone have any suggestions? Wood work seems to be "oak" in shade, not more than 20 years old, Lowes still sells cabinets and windows like mine. (and I did ask them, they have no glue). Please, advice if you have any ideas. Looks really ugly and getting worse.
