How to do a candy apple finish on a red wall?

I saw this years ago on a tv show and am wanting to replicate it on a room of mine. I can't seam to find anything to help on the internet. It's a red wall but transparent and shiny like a candy apple. Does anyone have any ideas what this is called or better yet how to go about doing it.

You buy automotive finishes and spray them,

I will have to look into doing the semi transparent top coat but my concern is that will not have the deapth I am looking for. Maybee if I apply several coats.

I think I am going to have to get some sheet rock and do some test runs before I tackle the whole wall.

I believe you may be thinking of venitian plaster . It is a kind of faux finish that can be polished to a mirror like sheen and can be made to look translucent. The colors can be made very intense and have a incredible glow to them when treated with a satin poly.

NEC is correct for the auto color.
Paint first coat GOLD.
For the red mix clear Lacquor with a small amount of red apply many coats 15 / 20 or until the depth desired and color is reached.
With plaster you may no be able to get the depth be cause of the white plaster base material.
