how to connect 60yr old pipe to new sink drain pipe

My house was built in 1950. We took off the old crane sink and are trying to attach a new pedestle sink. The pipe in the wall is a dark metal and the inner diameter is about 1.5 inch. I do not think it is copper. We cannot attach a standard 1.5 inch chrome drain pipe kit from Lowes because the compression fitting is too big. The 1.25 inch fitting is too small.

The metal pipe is threaded on the outside, but somewhat corroded, but still sound. What do we do?

Alright if possible find a reducing coupling lowes might have what you need also could try the right size black hose clamp.should be able to find coupling or possibly compression coupling.good luck...black pipe or galvanized pipe should be coupling you just have to find right one.YOU MIGHT ALSO WANT TO CHECK AT LOWES THEIR GS FITTINGS.AGAIN LUCK

What happened to the compression nut that you removed? If you can't use it take it with you when you go to get new parts.
