How long should I wait to stain?

I am having a pressure treated deck built on my home. I've been told that I should wait a year to stain it...is this accurate?

I would stain as soon as the weather permits, but that is just me.
I have heard that year thing as well, but I don't know what the reasoning is behind it.
Maybe someone else does though...
You can get a more thorough staining and sealer when the material is KD.

I thought it was to allow the pressure treated wood a chance to dry out?

Certainly could be, but there is wet or dry pressure treated lumber....Depending on your part of the country, one or the other is a better fit....

I built a deck a number of years ago here in Wisconsin and some of the wood I used was pretty wet. I did wait a full year before I put any kind of sealer on it.

In Pa we also see mostly wet PT lumber.
