How Do You Insulate Single Pane Windows? (I'm a renter)

I am a renter and looking for a way to insulate our single pane windows that cranks out. They also have the aluminum cross frame design. We are sleeping in our sweats and stocking hats in San Diego, Ca. Brr!

hang heavy curtains or thick plastic stapled over the window opening

Easy. For 9 years before getting new windows, I use the shrink film over my steel casements. It was very easy. Use the double-sided sticky tape to apply the film over the opening and then shrink it with a hairdryer. You won't be able to use the window, but it alleviates air loss and will make your house more comfortable. It's eaily removed when you no longer need it. I left it on all year on some windows to help with AC in the summer.

Here is one kit that will insulate five 3' x 5' windows. There are other kits for different size windows.
