Hot water radiators not heating correctly
Alex

Have a 2001 Pearson gas boiler system feeding 1920s cast iron radiators on one floor. Boiler turns on and heats to 170 but heat in house is stuck at 58 degrees. Radiators are all warm (not hot) and seem to be consistently hot from top to bottom. Any ideas what the problem might be (faulty switch, bad circulator..) and any suggestions on how to diagnose?

Could be air in the radiators, have you tried bleeding them?

I grew up in an 1883 Victorian that had the original hot water system with free standing radiators. Each radiator had a bleed valve at the top which could be opened with a key device. You would let the air escape until water started coming out. As I recall, we would have to do this a couple times during the winter.

Darryl, first check for a bleed valve and try bleeding the radiator.
