Honeywell Pressuretrol Settings
Rufus

We had a Burnham Steam furnace (PIN6) installed in 2012. The Honeywell Pressuretrol was set at Main .5 (1/2psi) & Differenital at 1.5. When we had the yearly service before last winter the tech set the Main at 3.0 and the Differenital at 1.5. The valves on the radiators where really hissing a lot then before almost like to much steam. My service is due soon and I would like to request the tech to adjust the settings to the original ones if this makes sense. The differential is SUBTRACTIVE.

Second question is my low water cut off is about 1/3 up on the glass water level (manual water feed) what is the recommended water level above the 1/3.

Thanks for any responses.

there is a mark on the side of the steam boiler that shows the minimum water level. any level below this is dangerous. You do not want to over fill a boiler you want dry steam. I would set the pressure lower to .5, the higher the pressure the hotter the steam.with a differential of 1.5 the cut off pressure would be 2 lbs but with a setting of 3 lbs and 1.5 diff the cut off would be 4.5 psi. I do not have the steam tables with me but the difference would be about 5 degrees between the two settings.

Thanks for the info. I want to be able to discuss my concerns with some idea of what the settings are.

On the water level I see the arrow on the side that indicates the lowest water level. The low water cutoff is about 1/3 up on glass. When I have drained the boiler of the brown water my low level cut off lights up when I reach that point.

My confusion is when the system was installed the the water level was at the 1/2 level. The tech last year mention I should have it at the 3/4 or a bit higher but this seems like to much water. I know steam heat is a heat of the past but and tech's are scarce and want to have the proper settings.

as long as the 1/2 mark is above the low water mark you are ok. That being said you or someone should open up all the low water controls or cut offs and clean them for debris and proper operation. also you should blow down all the low water cut off often. on big boilers we do this every shift.
