I'm seeking ideas about how to take the 1950's feel out of the cape in the attached photo and give it more of a "timeless" curb appeal. There are subtle architectural qualities that I can't seem to put my finger on that really date it, and I'm hoping some folks here can help me identify them so that I can make alterations. So far, my thoughts are to remove the overgrown shrubs and replace with new boxwoods and hydrangeas, maybe put flower planters under the windows, and a new garage door.
What else might help it look less 1950'svand more early American? I feel like there is something subtle about the siding, trim, and shutters that give it a '50's look but I'm not sure what or how to change. Thanks for any architectural advise!
