Help Cold Bedroom Upstairs above Garage !

Cold Room upstairs above garage Full Description:One bedroom gets semi good flow of heat to bedroom. Other bedroom hardly any. Could I wrap heating duct to cold bedroom and try taping joints with metal tape. Bedroom 2. I would have to cut open ceiling in garage to access the ducts. Also I have noticed that Home depot sells a booster fan that goes in duct (that would be for the cold bedroom) It requires electrical knowledge to hook wire from fan to furnace. So it turns on when the furnace turns on. What is the best way to fix this problem? I can not locate heat taps on main trunk in basement. That go to the garage. Due to finished basement Would make a great segment for show. Will Ask This Old House be in Colorado any time soon? Help (Richard) freezing son upstairs-sleeping on couch in living room downstairs...

You need to contact a local heating contractor to help you with that. It may be too much for you to handle.

Re: Help Cold Bedroom Upstairs above Garage !

Your supplies should always be sealed and should be insulated unless they are in there own space or a conditioned space. Your returns should at least be sealed. Before I did any thing I would try to balance the system to try to get more air to the cold room by taking air from another. Use the dampers that are in the takeoffs to do this, they are attached to the main truck which comes off the furnace. If that doesn't work then you may have to have someone from an HVAC Co. go to your house and make sure everything is sized right. Balancing a system should always be done but it's not going to do any good if your Ductwork has not been sized right. There are different ways to configure ductwork but I have always found a Reducing System to work the best, not seeing what you have makes it harder to help. Good Luck:)
