Heat pump water heater?

Old electric water heater is dead...looking at getting a new heat pump water heater. Can't find any good reviews. Can anyone give me their two cents regarding a good brand/model and whether the additional cost is worth it?

Personally i think they are over rated. In the winter it is taking heat out of the air in your house to heat the water which means your furnace will need to run more. You might want to check out Marathon water heaters.

My choice: a similar water heater to the one you have now.

They are awful expensive right now. When they come down in price some, they may be worth it in the deep south and the west coast. Now if someone could find a way to use a heat pump to run a refrigerator/freezer and hot water heater combo, that might work.

Keith, what a great idea!

Keith, there is a system like that. They take the heat off the compressor for central AC. It works quite good. It requires a mixing valve at the water heater because it can heat the water to a much to high of a temperature.
