Hardwood sub floor problems HELP
multipole87

Wanting to install bruce 3/4 oak flooring 2.5 inches wide. When looking down stairs I can see the plywood but after closer review through the furnance vent I found 1/2 plywood bottom with 5/8 pressed wood on top of it. Every one I have talked to said you cant lay hardwood flooring on top of the pressed wood any ideas.

What do you mean by pressed wood? If it is osb although it would not be my choice in sub floor there is no reason you cant lay wood over it

Plywood would make a better sub floor. The nails will hold better in plywood.

I totally agree with you there dj but osb can work ok to. But if it was mine i would probably switch it out for plywood before laying down hard wood
