Generator fumes entering through kitchen stove exhaust vent and soffit vent
Ploni

We have a generator outside on the same wall as the kitchen stove vent - they are about 20 feet apart and the vent is about 10 feet above the grade of the generator. This separation meets code but when the wind is blowing in the right direction, we get fumes in the house from the generator. I want to do something on the outside of the house to prevent this. Are there any ready-made kits or devices that can be adapted for this? The vent pipe that exists the house is rectangular (not round) and has a spring-loaded cover that doesn't appear to be very tight fitting. We also seem to have fumes entering through the soffit vent in the soffit that's about 15 feet above the generator. Can we close up the section of the vent that is directly above the generator?  We have looked into moving the generator and it is not an option due to zoning regulations.
