A few years ago when we had our basement finished, the remodeler installed a GE whole house water filter with the FXHTC filter. Over the years, I have been changing the filter every 3 months religiously. When I turn the water "on" after changing the filter, the water rushing throughout the copper pipes make a banging sound. Is this normal? Does anyone else's copper pipes make this sound after changing the filter and turning "on" the water? My concern/worry is that the constant banging from the pipes cannot be good on the copper joints.
Also, the water from the taps and the toilets come out dark in color. I assume the water is safe and the discoloration is okay since the water is a closed system.
I would appreciate your thoughts/input on my scenario.
