Garage Door Hit

My garage door was hit by a car, not hard just enough not mess up one side. It is not lined up at the bottom like it should be. And the cable came lose. Can this be fixed?

It would be helpful to post pictures inside and out , and to know what the door is made of.

If it is aluminum and the panel is bent it would probably be easier to replace the panel.

Have you checked the track to make sure it has not been knocked out of place?

If the panel is not bent it could be that one of the roller holders bent or was knocked loose.

Not sure an if you can post a pic or two it would help. You will probably need to release all of the tension on the overhead spring to re-wrap the cable.

Be very careful. If you are not that spring can bust loose and do much damage.

(Considers former employee still in rehab.)

from looking at it it looks as though you could just knock it back in place the track and rollers are still in place. but you can tell it was hit.

Well then, all is fixed. And it was that easy.

If the panel is not creased it is most likely a problem with the roller shaft or mounting hardware.

Does your cable set up look like this ?

If it does and the cable is broken you will probably need to replace the cable. It is easiest to lift the door to reinstall the cable. The cables on the two sides need to be the same length.

The shaft on the roller may be bent and need to be replaced. If it does be sure to put the new roller in the same tube that old one is in because some units have 2 tubes.

If you have the type that the cable wraps around a cylinder it is best to get someone who knows what they are doing to replace the cable and set the tension.
