Formica Counter-top repair

Tom Silva recently demonstrated on TV how to re-stick a Formica Counter-top using an iron. Either he didn't state or I missed which iron setting to use. I would appreciate knowing this before I try it.

I didn't see the episode, but basically the heat reactivates the glue then you simply restick it. so I would say practice using the lower settings first because you can burn the face of the formica.

don't iron directly on the countertop use a buffer like a paper bag or a towel. you inserting heat activated glue? usually formica is installed with contact cement isn't it?

they finally posted an episode description today (11/25), 21 days after it first aired (yesterday the last one was first air date at end of october)! maybe now you can catch a repeat. here is a link to the description page: http://www.thisoldhouse.com/toh/tv/ask-toh/products-and-services/episode/0,,20236808_20228407,00.html

I tried this on my 1950s green laminate counters and it does indeed work.
