In-floor heating

Looking for some advice on in-floor heating.
We're going to slowly remodel our kitchen and an adjacent dining room, beginning with the floor. Currently it's linoleum in the kitchen and carpet in the dining room. We're going to replace both with ceramic tile, probably 12x12s.
The dining room was an addition to the house -- without proper insulation. Given that, and that tile floors are naturally cold in Minnesota winters, we're considering installing a heating system beneath the tile.
I've seen a few in-floor heating products, including mat and cable variations.
Anybody used these? If so, do you have any recommendations or tips on buying and installing? Are there good options for those of us without deep pockets?
