Flagstone walk with grass
Craig

I would like to create a flagstone walk from our driveway up to our home's front step. When finished, we want grass to grow in-between the pieces of stone. How deep does the preparation need to be? What type of substrate material? Do I just use top soil to "grout" between the stones.

There are demonstrations on this web site and on youtube, with instructions on how to install a flagstone walkway.
You can even do it yourself.

But professionals use a solid base - concrete or gravel, so that the stones don't move so easily, then they grout between the stones (usually mortar). If you want grass instead of grout, then just remove the gravel between the stones, fill with topsoil and seed. It would be harder to do on a concrete base.
