Fireplace repair

i have just purchased an 150 yr old house with three beautiful granite and soapstone fireplaces. without discussing how, the soapstone fireplace has come unglued so to speak, the mantle is lose from the base and one side is lose from the wall. Any help on how it comes apart and how to put it back together would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Fireplace repair

Considering the age of the fireplace, calling an old time mason will be ideal.

Unfortunately no, I live in the west coast, but try local masonry outlets - the owners might have some reliable contacts.

Re: Fireplace repair

Try a stone yard for some info or a reference. They tend to be in out of the way industrial areas or near quarries. An internet search should turn up in your area. Plenty of stone quarries in western Pa.
